Abstract:

The LATAM NIME Gathering 2026 is a hybrid workshop open to anyone interested in Latin American perspectives on music technologies. Building upon the foundational efforts of the LATAM NIME Research Network and key milestones such as the NIME Mexico 2023 initiatives this session invites the broader NIME community to revisit and update the assessment of participation, representation, and equity first conducted in 2021. The workshop examines how geopolitical location, language, and cultural context shape music technology practices and addresses emerging challenges within the community. Conducted primarily in Spanish and Portuguese with live bilingual captions, the session features a reflection on the LATAM NIME Mentoring Programme, a panel on culturally situated knowledge from the Latin American diaspora, an open participatory discussion, and a collective music jam. Through these activities, the workshop aims to generate shared insights, strengthen translocal connections, and collectively envision pathways to sustain and amplify Latin American voices within the global NIME ecosystem.
